About the Conference

Discrete Mathematics (DM) is the study of discrete structures. Importance of Discrete Mathematics has grown manifold in recent times in view of the fact that majority of the problems in computer science are basically discrete in nature. This is mainly due to the fact that the digital computers operate in discrete steps and store data in discrete bits. Concepts and notations from discrete mathematics are useful in studying and describing objects and problems in branches of computer science such as computer algorithms, programming languages, cryptography, automata theory and software developments. Discrete mathematical structures and related combinatorial reasoning techniques are natural areas of interest in algorithmic computer science.

The aim of this conference is to invite young researchers in DM from all over India and make them get an exposure to the current trends in DM and make them feel as to what DM in the higher plane is all about.

About the College

National College, Tiruchirapalli was founded in June, 1919. Under the stewardship of eminent scholars and administrators, the College has grown to become a seat of Higher Education and has earned a reputation for high moral standards.

As on date, the College offers nineteen Post-Graduate Programmes and twenty Under-Graduate Programmes. The College has been recognised as one of the Centres of Advanced Learning and has been accorded permission for registering candidates for research leading to the award of Ph.D. and M.Phil. in thirteen departments. The College was first accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at ‘A’ level in 2005 and Re-Accredited in III Cycle at ‘A+’ Grade in 2016. The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, conferred Autonomous status on the College in 2010. The College has also been conferred the rare distinction of College with Potential for Excellence status in 2011. The College continues its march to the centenary year with relentless vigour, keeping its mission and vision clear. There are 250 Teaching and 100 Non-Teaching staff working in the College. The Managing Agency of the College is Dr. V. Krishnamurthy Educational Foundation, a registered society. The College is managed by a College Committe consisting of fourteen members.

About the Department

The department has a long and excellent tradition of imparting mathematics education in this region. Mathematics was introduced in 1927 for the intermediate course. In 1939 B.Sc Mathematics was started and in 1954 PG course was started. The department aims at giving students a strong foundation in the basics and then motivating them towards specializations for research activities of an inter disciplinary nature and thus acting as a catalyst for initiating many research programmes, theoretical and practical in nature. The department has also been actively engaged in organizing workshops and training programmes for both teachers and students .The department conducts special coaching classes for weaker sections for UGC-CSIR,NET. There are many distinguished and leading mathematicians in India and abroad, who are alumni of this College.
