THE DEPARTMENT
About the Department
The Department of Computer Science was established in the year 1990 with all the infrastructural facilities and teaching staff. Initially the Department offered Bachelor of Computer Science (B.Sc., Computer Science). The department was headed by Mr. Sathyanarayanan and by Mr. R.T. Ashok Kumar till 2006. Then the department is being headed by Dr. P.S.S. Akilashri since 2007. Bharathidasan University granted provisional affiliation to start M.Sc., (Computer Science) in the year 2006.The Department of Computer Science was upgraded to Research Department with Master of Philosophy (M.Phil., Computer Science) in the year 2016. The Department is recognized as Research center by Bharathidasan University in the year 2019, for carrying out research work, leading to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. Computer Science). Department is stepping to a new milestone to introduce B.Sc., Data Science and M.Sc., Data Science in the upcoming years. The department also aims with the speed of modern technological standard to face the competitive environment in the fields.

To provide a high-quality undergraduate and Post graduate education in computer science that prepares students for productive careers and lifelong learning

FACILITIES
COMPUTER LAB
Computer labs facilitate hands-on learning, experimentation and innovation, making them an essential resource in educational institution. Labs are fully equipped with systems and latest software with an environment to implement and experiment knowledge acquired in the classroom. Systems are equipped with high bandwidth of internet. Trained and skilled lab faculties engage the students with practical sessions to help them navigate rapidly changing technology driven world. Students are flourished with projectors to aid audio visual learning.
COMPUTER CLUB
PG & Research Department of Computer Science, organizes computer club every Thursday for learning and sharing knowledge about computer programming languages and problem solving. The activity is conducted through Nearpod. Students from different departments can participate in the event. Students are sparked with 25 MCQ’s to hit within 15mins of time duration. Winners are awarded with Cash prizes.

Apart from regular Computer Science Association Activities, the Department has organized the following events in the past few years
- One day Workshop on Android and Multimedia was organized by the Department of Computer Science on 12-10-2012.
- One Day Seminar on “You can be On your Own” Recent Trends in Graphic Designing Advertising and Branding was organized by the Department of Computer Science on 28-02-2013.
- A One Day Workshop on Soft Skill was conducted by the Department of Computer Science on 25-09-2009.
- A Special Programme entitled NACOTECH 2010 was conducted by the Department of Computer Science on 15-02-2010. Inter Collegiate competitions on Computer related topics were conducted during the Programme.
